Progressive overload without a fixed weekly rule
Progressive overload means gradually changing a training demand when the context supports it. It is a principle, not a command to add weight every week.
The decision in context
Overload is a change in a chosen demand that asks the body to do more or do something different. Fit depends on goals, capacity and training status.
How to apply it this week
Load, repetitions, range, speed, rest or complexity can all change a task. Name the variable rather than implying that more is always better.
The trade-off to name
Adding demand may create a new stimulus but reduces margin; holding steady preserves margin but may change more slowly.
Where the answer stops
This page is educational planning context. It does not diagnose symptoms, set an individual load, replace court practice or qualified advice, or guarantee a sport result.
